Dependable childcare

All of the children at Cherub are individually assessed and each child’s individual needs are planned for to aid in their development. Through observation and a key worker system, we ensure that each child’s moral, cultural and social skills are nurtured and developed.

Each child is given a member of staff who will act as a key worker and help them to settle into the nursery. The key worker is also responsible for closely monitoring the child’s progress in all areas of development, offering security for both the child and their parents/carers.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a curriculum which is required by Ofsted. The EYFS ensures continuity for all of the children at our nurseries and allows our staff to plan exciting, stimulating and relevant activities to meet the individual needs of each child.

We believe a good relationship with parents/carers is vital to a child’s learning and development, and we work closely with them to achieve this. Parents/carers are involved all the way through their child’s learning, regardless of how old their child is when they begin attending Cherub. This ensures that we are all working towards the same goals and achievements, whether it’s at home or in the nursery.

Parents/carers can get involved in a variety of ways, including parent evenings, diaries, mentor meetings, annual questionnaires, as well as special events throughout the year. Parents can also check in on their child throughout the day using our web-cam facility.

Until the age of two years, a daily red book is kept for each child in our care, providing information for parents. When the book goes home with the child each day, parents are encouraged to add information for our staff. This provides an important element of communication between staff and parents throughout each day of the child’s development.

At the age of two, we encourage the children to tell parents/carers about what they have been doing throughout the day, they no longer have a daily diary but a record of their activities is kept, to be passed on to parents/carers.

We also understand the importance of the children being able to see their own achievements and learning, so we clearly display each child’s work and photos around the nursery for the children to see for themselves, and to show their parents/carers.
